Function Notation

(f+g)(x) means add the equations

(f-g)(x) means subtract the equations

(f *g)(x) means multiply the equations

(f/g)(x) means to divide the equations

(f ᵒ g)(x) or f(g(x)) means to replace all of the x's in the equation with the g(x)-(f ᵒ g)

If x is replaced with a number, plug it into the equation.

Example 1
Determine if f(x)=3x^3-2x^2-4x-5 is even, odd, or neither.
f(-x)=3(-x)^3-2(-x)^2-4(-x)-5
=3x^3-2x^2-4x-5
Even
