Infinite Limits

This past week in Adv Math we learned about infinite limits.

- If you have a fraction with 2 polynomials divided then use the rules as followed:

1. Degree top = degree bottom = leading coeff. Divided by leading coeff.

2. Degree top > degree bottom = +/- infinite. ( plug into calculator to get + or - )

3. Degree top < degree bottom = 0

If it doesn’t follow the rules then,

1. Plug into y= on calculator

2. Hit 2nd table

3. Then plug in to get answer

4. E ^ + number = + or – inf

E^ - number = 0

If it is a geometric and r < 1 then lim=0

Ex:

Lim n -> inf n+5/n

The degree of n in the numerator is 1. The degree of n in the denominator is also 1. Therefore 1/1 is 1 and so your answer is 1.
