Logs look like this: logb x = a
As an exponent, it's b^a = x
b is the base of the exponent.
If there isn't any specific base, it's automatically 10.

If b and a are equal they cancel out and so does the log.
ln is a natural log; its base is automatically 10.
The exponent of a log can be written in front if you really feel like it.
Example:
log 4^5 = 6 could be written as 5log 4 = 6.
