Degrees, Minutes, & Seconds!

DON'T JUDGE ME FOR WHAT COLOR I USE, LOL.

Degrees is broken down into two forms: Minutes which has the ' symbol and seconds which has the " symbol.
  • To convert into degrees, you have to multiply what is behind the decimal by 60.
  • To convert to seconds, you take whatever answer you got from multiplying by 60 in the previous step, and multiply the decimals by 60 again.
  • To convert minutes & seconds to degrees you have to use the following formula: degrees + minutes/60 + seconds/3600 =

Example 1: Convert 12.22 degrees to degrees, minutes, and seconds.
1) You take the .22 in the given degrees and you multiply that by 60. You get 13.2 minutes.
2) You take the .2 from the answer you got in minutes then, multiply that by 60. You get 12 seconds.
3) So your finally answer will be 12 degrees, 13 minutes, and 12 seconds.

Example 2: Convert 20 degrees 20 minutes and 6 seconds to degrees
1) All you have to do is, use the formula that I gave you in the previous notes, for this problem. 2) Then you plug in your degrees, minutes, and seconds into the formula.
3) When you plug it in you should get 20 + 20/60 + 6/3600 = 20.335 degrees
