! Sohcahtoa !

The latest lesson that we have learned in class was SOHCAHTOA.

SOHCAHTOA= sin= opp/hyp. cos=adj/hyp. tan=opp/adj.

Steps of SOHCAHTOA:

-Only able to use if a right triangle.

-Can't use it on the 90 degree angle.

-Angle of elevation means looking from bottom to top.

-Angle of depression means looking from top to bottom.

Example of SOHCAHTOA:

The safety instructions for a 25 foot ladder indicate that the ladder should not be inclined at more than 60 degrees from the ground. Suppose a ladder is leaned against a house at this angle. Find a) the distance x from the base of the house to the foot of the ladder and b) the height of the ladder.

To find your height, first set up : sin60 degrees=y/25

Multiply each side by 25 to get: y=25sin60= 21.650

To find the distance x: x=cos60=x/25

Multiply each side by 25 to get: x=25cos60= 12.5
