SOHCAHTOA

Last week in class we learned SOHCAHTOA

This lesson requires dealing with right angles and using your formulas correctly. All of the formulas can be used and you can still come up with the same answers as long as you do it right.

The formulas used are:

- sinθ:opposite/hypotenuse

- cosθ:adjacent/hypotenuse

- tanθ:opposite/adjacent

You only use this on right angles

-You are to choose any other angle besides 90 degrees.

- There's an angle of elevation

-Angle of depression

Ex. Problem: In triangle PQR angle P= 90 degrees, angle Q=64 degrees, and p = 27. Find q and r.

In order to solve this problem,you first draw the right triangle with the angles you know,then after you look at your different formulas and see which one best fits the problem correctly.

First solve for tan27=q then turning into q=40/tan27 =78.50 degrees

q= 78.50

To get r you do tan30=r/78.50 which turns into r=tan30/78.50 and you get 15.97 degrees
